Salary Calculator FAQs

How does WageIndicator ensure that the wage information is credible?

WageIndicator encourages respondents to provide correct information regarding their personal characteristics and job responsibilities by ensuring the anonymity of each of these individuals’ information. The Salary Calculator is revised twice a year, while the Wages in Context database is revised four times a year. Furthermore, prior to calculation, the obtained data is evaluated by comparing it to other indicators that measure wage information using accurate and accepted statistical methods. WageIndicator also ensures the reliability and credibility of the information by eliminating outliers in the data such as astronomically high or very low hourly wages and unlikely occurrences such as new employees claiming to have high earnings.

Does the wage information include the Gender Pay Gap?

WageIndicator’s Salary Calculator shows information about the differential wages of men and women, even if they are engaged in the same occupation. The information collected by WageIndicator’s Salary Calculator shows that even if men and women perform work of equal value, gender gaps continue to persist, skewed against women. Some of the main reasons that are provided include the number of hours worked, work experience, educational background, skills, paid allowances, bonuses, job evaluation, and classification systems. For the latter reasons, gender discrimination may act as a detriment and a deterrent to women.

How many occupations has WageIndicator listed and how does it define occupations?

There are more than 4,000 occupations that have been recognized by WageIndicator. WageIndicator’s occupation classification in the Salary Calculator is based on the International Standard Classification of Occupations (ISCO) as defined by the International Labour Organisation (ILO).
